Okay I know I totally suck at maintaining my blog.. My fault for being uninspired and unmotivated to talk about my everyday life. Actually no, I think I was just being plain lazy, which is what I am all the time. So yeah haha kudos to me.

Anyway its been a week since I got back to Singapore for my summer break from Melbourne.. Finally got through my first year in university, with all its ups and downs. But that's a different story and I'll save it for the mandatory pre(or post)-New Year post.

Even though I came back in July, it feels as if I haven't been back since last year. Singapore's changed so much, I've changed so much. Weather's still as shitty as I remember, with the heat and humidity. I swear its so suffocating, I feel like I'm gonna die from an asthma attack every time I breathe. Though no, I don't suffer from asthma. Makes me miss Melbourne even more! Which leads me to the point of why I miss Melbourne like hell and not so for Singapore. True, Singapore is where my family and most of my friends are. True, its where I grew up. But after experiencing truly what life in Melbourne is - after a year and a half - its struck me how much I've come to love the lifestyle in Melbourne. The easiness of everything: people, the pace of life. People are less judging there, or so I feel. Everyone's free to have their own unique style, and you can walk down the street without having people stare at you and give you the look-over. Neither does that make you a nobody. You get to see so many different styles that having your own just makes you part of the tapestry of characters that make up Melbourne. And everyone's just so friendly! If you'd exclude the occasional racist.. But that's not very often unless you're out in the further suburbs. So yeah, the people are just so easy-going and nice to talk to. Everyone says hi to you when you walk in shops, and asks how you are. Even though it may just be an automatic phrase that everyone says, and even if they don't really care how your day is, this simple gesture just lifts your spirits and causes you to at least smile back (unless you're super unfriendly tsk). And I think prolonged exposure makes you an overall happier person in public. Another thing I love is how everyone says thank you to the bus driver whenever they alight. Another simple gesture that not only builds courtesy, but also forms a bond between commuter and driver. Even though the drivers may change, it just makes everyone's manners generally more pleasant. Now every time I alight from an SBS bus here I automatically turn to say thank you to the driver but then I catch myself before my fellow Singaporeans label me as a weirdo. Sad, isn't it?

Though I may have mentioned how studying abroad opens your eyes to the things in Singapore that have been taken for granted, I've come to realise how, on the other hand, it also makes you aware of the areas that need vast improvement in our country. I guess its like a buy-1-get-1-free thing.. But then again no country is perfect, and neither is Singapore nor is Melbourne. So I guess its up to you to decide which country's lifestyle and character best suits you. Though choosing a country other than Singapore is mighty hard. Just think of all the cheap good food that you'll be sacrificing! Give and take, I guess. Haha.

Well okay, enough on Singapore/Melbourne differences. On to my life! Since I've been back, I've met up with some friends, gone out discovering Orchard with Tine (yes, I can hardly recognise the place now), eaten like a shameless pig, and baked in the heat. Started work at my uncle's eye clinic today, and I realise that its the third year in a row that I've worked there. And I've seen it grow to have four locations now! Gotta earn money to finance myself during my time in Singapore.. Hurr so many things to buy!! And I'm going to BKK in December too. Gotta savesavesave if I wanna buy clothes to give my wardrobe its much-needed boost! And to buy a new compact camera since I killed my faithful Canon Ixus 60 while playing mini golf at the Grampians during my epic roadtrip with Tine, Gen and Lynal.. Haha good, good times.

Alrighty then. Will update another time about my life in Melbourne. Really hope I don't slack off and let my blog rot again.

Cheerios!
